surgery_2.pngCosmetic Surgery – is a type of plastic surgery which is an elective procedure that is performed to enhanced body parts and appearance through surgical and medical techniques.

Reconstructive Surgery
– is a type of plastic surgery performed to reshape abnormal structures of the body to improve function and appearance.

Unlike reconstructive surgery, cosmetic surgery is not covered by health insurance. As far as insurance is concerned, there is finely a thin line between the two. It is better understood through an example. For instance, an eyelid surgery, a procedure usually classified as cosmetic surgery may be covered by health insurance if it is done reconstructive to rectify drooling eyelids which is impairing the vision of the client. Likewise, a face lift may be considered medically necessary when there is functional impairment that cannot be corrected without surgery.

In other words, plastic surgery done which are considered to be medically necessary will be covered by health insurance
